Guidance into Private Practice
It was a huge decision for me to leave home and family in order to move across country to do this residency, and it took a lot of work and no small amount of money to make it happen. But the folks at the DTA were phenomenally gracious, patient, and supportive of my process. Their confidence in me and enthusiasm for my success was 100% genuine and exactly what I needed, and now I have a thriving private practice to show for it. It was a great year.
DTA provided me with a depth of training and knowledge in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Receiving 4 hours total of supervision (individual plus group) each week helped me grow as a clinician and I left DTA with full confidence of how to manage a full practice, but more importantly, how to function as an effective insight-oriented psychotherapist.
The promise of three hours a week of supervision, with three different clinicians, the weekly group consultation space, and the fact that the main orientation utilized was psychodynamic depth work was exactly what I wanted.
They allowed me to explore how I wanted to do things and we were ready when I needed their support.
They far exceeded my expectations, and I found the income to be much higher than other postdoc sites.
I now have my own private practice and know what I’m doing because of my time at DTA.
What truly sets DTA apart is the people, they are all so committed to learning and training, and are incredibly welcoming and personable. I’ll always remember my postdoc at DTA fondly.
My training as a post-doc at DTA was invaluable in further building my confidence as a clinician.
The level of supervision at DTA was outstanding. They not only advanced my skills as a therapist, but helped me learn the ropes of starting and maintaining a successful private practice.
